Question USB Flash Drive Life
I have discovered that the description of most USB flash-drives states that they support Win98SE but not Win98. Can somebody explain why that is? I hope that it is just that the flash-drive is 2.0 and Win98 only supports 1.x meaning that it will probably run on Win98 but at a slower speed. Thanks for any help.

If the system has existing scsi or sata drives the flash drive will have to be set accordingly. On the other hand, for an IDE only system the flash drive would be set to sda. Does that mean that you can't prepare a flash drive for universal booting as you can boot from a live CD?

I had to find a 128MB drive (believe me that was tough) and it worked fine. I would check manufacturers and capacities that people report as successful and look for one on eBay. I don't question or dispute that people utilize devices that are available. I merely stated that floppies are used less and less on this campus. Lastly, the students, staff and faculty use the USB flash drives for large _and_ small files alike. The floppies are limited to small files only.
